The “Champaign Cruisers Car Club” was founded by friends who had a mutual love for fun and cars. They met in a little building at the Urbana City Park in the winter of 1997 to discuss starting a car club.  Rocky Teets and Mike Smith were the instigators of this meeting. Original members Tom and Shirley Winks were also there from the very beginning. Initially, there were a few trustee meetings at Rocky’s house and so the club was born. It was also decided, early on, to have a car show once a year. From the very beginning, the whole idea of the club was to have a good time by interacting with other people interested in older cars and doing fun things together.

Later at the regular meetings, decisions were made about membership dues, meeting times, places to have meetings, officers for the club, and when to have the car show.  The Champaign Cruiser’s club membership decided that July 4th would be the date to hold our annual car show.

Our first show was held on July 4, 1998.  We really didn’t know what we were doing but we had fun and had enough cars to encourage us to continue. The funds raised from that initial show were $1502.96. To date, we have now had ten car shows and with each one we learn something to help make succeeding shows bigger and better. Our club’s goal is to have the premier car show for this area. This is the only event that we expect all of our members to participate and pitch-in as it is our prime fund raising activity. This past year we had some 300+ cars and trucks from all over the Miami Valley. We have become well known for the quality and uniqueness of the 60+ trophies we award to the best participant entries.
